There was an old 1985 software called Gamemaker that made Commodore 64 games easier to program by providing editors for sprits, music, sound effects, and other stuff. It was Gary Kitchen that made it:

I remember using graph paper to make my sprites and adding up the bits to make hex codes that would put them into the games I wrote.

There was a version for MacOS, Windows, DOS etc to make C64 games via cross compiling.

If there is software like that to make C65/M65 games, I'd be interested in making Commodore Games again.

There also was Arcade, Shoot 'em Up, and Pinball makers that did the same things.

I'd even be considering making games I create with it for free and release the source.
